Cartier is one of the most sought-after and collectible brands, even when it comes to items that most people think are common or unattractive.
Typically, a very heavy gold item that is rather plain will bring only the gold value. In the case of this large 50-gram chain, we paid 15 percent more than the gold value of $2,200 at the time of purchase, or $2,530. We were able to achieve a profit above that because people love the name Cartier on any piece of jewelry, attractive or not.
Even during their darkest years– a decade in the latter part of the 20th century, when they made uninspired designs – the word Cartier on a pen, watch, clock or piece of jewelry would always lift sales prices.
We paid $2,530 for the substantial gold chain pictured here, because of its name and retro design.
The Cartier clock, which has no gold, was made of jade (with four genuine rubies) between 1925 and 1935, the golden period of Cartier. We paid $13,000 for it; it is worth more. (We have also purchased a single Cartier item for $400,000.)
Battery-operated Cartier clocks from the 1980s forward usually are only worth $100 to $1,000.
We are one of the strongest buyers of signed jewelry in the United States.
If you have any pieces by Cartier that you would like to sell, we would like to see them. We make house calls or will meet at your attorney’s office anywhere in Tampa Bay.
